Scientists Successfully moo Secret Colors Saturn's Moon (Ilmuwan Berhasil Kuak Rahasia Warna Bulan Saturnus)

INILAH.COM, Ithaca – Astronom Amerika Serikat (AS) berhasil menemukan asal muasal warna misterius bulan Saturnus Lapetus. Seperti diketahui, bulan ini di satu sisi putih namun lainnya hitam.

Pola warna ‘dua wajah’ bulan ini telah lama membuat astronom penasaran. Namun seperti ditulis UPI, peneliti Cornell University mengaku berhasil menemukan penyebabnya.

‘Muka’ gelap Lapetus berasal dari debu yang dilemparkan bulan Saturnus lain, Phoebe, yang menyelimuti satu sisi Lapetus.

Peneliti Cornell mengatakan, Phoebe merupakan bulan jauh gelap yang memutari Saturnus dengan arah berlawanan Lapetus.

“Seperti menyetir di jalan raya, jika menyetir di arah berlawanan lalu lintas, tabrakan yang terjadi bisa lebih besar,” ujar peneliti Joseph Burns.

Tabrakan antara Phoebe dan bulan luar lain menghasilkan cincin debu tak kasat mata di luar cincin kasat mata Saturnus. Sebagian besar debu ini akhirnya menerpa satu sisi Lapetus seiring perputarannya mengelilingi Saturnus.

Pertumbuhan mikroflora pada para astronot di luar angkasa lebih cepat. hal itu dikhawatirkan menganggu metabolisme jika para astronot berlama lama didalam misinya. pada `1 Juni 2011, para astronot denagn pesawat Endeavour kembali ke Bumi setelah menjalani misi 16 hari di Stasiun Luar Angkasa Internasional. seorang profesor dari Pusat Penyakit Infeksi dan Vaksiologi di The Instituted Biodesign, Arizona State University , Amerika Serikat , Cheryl Nickerson, Selasa (26/7), mengatakan, Badan Atariksa Amerika Serikat (NASA) perlu mengambil mikroba menjadi pertimbangan dalam pengambilan keputusan misi lura angkasa. Perlu pula menentukan obat yang digunakan untuk mencegah tesistensi mikroba tersebut. Setidaknya, satu jenis mikroba yang bersifat patogen, yaitu Salmonella sp , diketahui akan lebih ganas diluar angkasa. Perubahan gaya berat juga mengubah jenis mikroba lain. Itu, diantaranya, bakteri Pseudomonas aeruginosa yang bisa mengganggu pernapasan, menujukkan kemiripan perubahan genetik molekuler  Salmonella .
